Purpose of Role
Exciting and career-advancing opportunity for an analytical, critical thinking, and detail-oriented engineer to join a high-performing, happy and fun team at nShift!
Your main responsibility will be keeping all mission-critical infrastructure systems related to the nShift Delivery product up and running, with low maintenance efforts and at predictable costs.
At the moment the production nShift Delivery platform runs on servers owned by nShift and is hosted in a colocation data center in Gothenburg. Consequently, the hardware maintenance and the resolution of hardware issues on-site are part of the team's responsibility. The role also involves on-call support on a rotating basis.
One key initiative driven by the team is to migrate our infrastructure to AWS.
The area of responsibility includes:
Participate and contribute to our infrastructure migration project to AWS.
All team members share the same duties regarding the colocation datacenters' production systems and the non-production systems in AWS.
- Configuration and maintenance of the hosted systems in close collaboration with the software engineers
- Tuning systems and applications to cope with big data volumes and to be available 24/7
- Monitoring of systems and applications
- Automating deployments
- Troubleshooting of incidents, scope of responsibility ends at the border between OS and application
- Optimizing the current procedures and practices in the team
- Being part of the on-call schedule outside office hours
Required professional qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps, System Administrator, or similar role
- Infrastructure, hardware and Linux based systems/applications management skills
- Experience in managing an AWS environment, including automation.
- Knowledge of managing network devices (firewall, switches, routers, etc) and security aspects.
- Hands-on experience in implementing and improving automation/scripting for infrastructure, containers, systems and applications
- Good working knowledge of most of these tools or technologies:
- Ubuntu
- git
- Apache
- Tomcat
- LXC/LXD containers
- Salt/SaltStack
- PostgreSQL
- Elastic Stack
- Bonus points for extensive in-depth experience in any of the tools/technologies mentioned above
Required personality traits and skill set
- Well-organized and positive attitude
- Analytical-minded with problem-solving skills
- Team player with good collaboration and communication skills
- Troubleshooting and learning from mistakes fan
- Mindfulness of the implications of running a 24/7 operation
- Fluent in writing and speaking in English
